Whether you live in the city or in the suburbs, having neighbors around can be annoying, helpful, or sometimes both. One thing that's pretty much guaranteed, though, is that from time to time, your neighbors will provide you with some decent entertainment. These people shared photos of the funniest, weirdest, and craziest things their neighbors did. So just sit back, enjoy, and be glad these aren't your neighbors.
That Neighbor Who Takes The 4th of July Very Seriously
Don't get us wrong, we love holidays and everything about them. Whether it's carving a pumpkin, decorating a giant Christmas tree, or having our entire family over so they can criticize us on our life choices - holidays present some pretty fun activities. The 4th of July is particularly fun, as it's one of the most patriotic holidays celebrated in the U.S., and it comes around right at the beginning of summer.
But some people take being patriotic a little more seriously than others. Take this person's neighbor, for example, who hung up so many flags in his yard, so no one would make the mistake of thinking they didn't love their country.
When Your Cat Gets Another Cat Pregnant, You Have to Step up
They say it's important to spay street cats, and for good reason. Cats get pregnant so easily, they breed like crazy - thus filling the streets with stray cats. But spaying isn't just reserved for cats that inhabit the streets. Spaying your own kitty is also important, as it can get pregnant by another cat, and then you'd have to care for the litter, or find other homes to kindly take them in.
This person neglected to spay their kitty, so it became pregnant with their neighbor's cat. While they weren't thrilled with the pregnancy, they did get a surprising gesture from their neighbor. They sent a bag of cat food for the new litter and labeled it "child support."
Free Dandelions for All of the Passive-Aggressive Neighbors
Some neighbors can be a real pain, especially if they're the type of person who cares a great deal about what the neighborhood looks like. We mean, there's nothing wrong with wanting your own property to look presentable, but when you start bugging other neighbors about their flowers, you probably have too much free time on your hands. This neighbor got a passive-aggressive note about their dandelions, begging them to pull them out.
Instead of bickering with their neighbors about it, they decided to repay them with a passive-aggressive move of their own. They put up a "Free Dandelions" sign on their front lawn, to let their neighbors know they can feel free to pull the dandelions out themselves if they want them gone.
Parrots Are Legitimate Pets, Too
Where you may live, it's probable that you've seen people in your neighborhood walking their dogs. Dogs need to go on their walks, so they can do their business and get some exercise in the process. But have you ever seen someone walking a pet that wasn't a dog? This person has. And we're not talking about a cat, either, as that would be far less strange than what's going on in this photo.
This person snapped a photo of their neighbors walking their parrots around the neighborhood. They even had a little stroller for them! Maybe these people are actually retired pirates, which might explain their powerful bond with their parrots.
A Pretty Trashy Thing to Do to Your Neighbors
When you live with other people in a confined space, whether it's a building or a neighborhood, you end up arguing about things. It's pretty much inevitable, because people are different than one another, but that doesn't make it any less annoying. One of the biggest issues neighbors tend to argue about is trash - especially when you have that one neighbor who seems to never properly dispose of it.
This neighbor kept leaving their trash bags outside their apartment to stink up the place, and would only dispose of them when neighbors complained. Now that's a whole other level of laziness, and if you ask us, they deserved the online shaming they got.
A Decoration Competition Can Get Really Intense in the Suburbs
People who live in the suburbs usually do it so their family can be surrounded with good, kind neighbors. And what's more neighborly than some friendly competition, right? That's why many neighborhoods hold yearly competitions for who decorates their house with the prettiest holiday lights and ornaments. You would think that gets people into the holiday spirit, with the added plus of having the neighborhood beautifully decorated, right? Well, not so much.
It can really bring out the competitive spirit in some people, so they make it a point to win every year. Other neighbors, on the other hand, take a step back from all the competitiveness, and let their neighbors take the spotlight instead.
Good Luck Getting Them to Babysit for You After This
We all know that sometimes, things happen that are completely out of our control. We can try our best, but sometimes the universe has other, much less fortunate plans for us. While we can usually handle it (after throwing a mild tantrum about how we don't deserve this happening to us), sometimes it affects other people besides ourselves. One person left their trampoline outside, completely unaware that stormy weather was coming their way.
Unfortunately, the trampoline was blown away by the wind and found itself lodged into their neighbor's house. Even if this person is good friends with their neighbors, we're pretty sure things will be much more awkward between them now.
When You're So Introverted Even Your Cactus Urges You to Socialize
Having your property surrounded by walls can be a good thing. It keeps prying eyes away from your home and your privacy intact. But not everyone believes that building up these barriers is good. Some believe that we need to break down these barriers between us, so we can live more peacefully and in harmony with one another. We're talking, of course, about this giant cactus, which seems to be a firm believer in these things.
Seriously, though, can you imagine what it would be like waking up to see your wall broken down by this enormous plant? We can very vividly picture the conversation between these two neighbors that followed, and it probably wasn't very pleasant.
It Doesn't Get Much More Embarrassing Than That
The person who invented the one-way frosty glass window is basically a genius. They gave us a way to get complete privacy in our home, while still allowing us to get a wonderful view of the outside. It only has one flaw - the glass must be facing the right way. If you reverse the window, you won't be able to see the outside at all. But that's not the worst part about it.
The worst part is everyone will be able to see you, which is particularly awful if you used this glass for your bathroom, like most people do. These people got a wake up call from their neighbors, and if we were them, we'd go ahead and move.
When the Neighbor's Kid Goes 'Bananas'
One great thing about the suburbs, is that you can always see kids running around or riding their bikes down the street, having fun. You can see how great it is for them to have that freedom. So if you're a kid person living in the suburbs, you'll probably get a kick out of your neighbor's children from time to time. This person was paid a surprise visit from a little boy named Carter, who came to their door asking for a banana.
First of all, let us point out that the kid is dressed in yellow just like a Minion, the animated creatures who famously love bananas, but never mind that. He's so adorable, we can't blame this person for not being able to refuse.
It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like They Have A Bad Neighbor
Decorating your home for Christmas is a lot of fun, especially if you're doing it with your family. Bringing home a tree, decorating it with festive lights and ornaments, maybe even hanging a Christmas wreath on your door - it truly gives you that holiday spirit. But getting rid of these decorations can be a real pain, which is probably why so many people end up putting it off until Easter comes around.
This neighbor found a creative way of getting rid of their tree - they just dropped it out of their window. Who knows? Maybe they thought the wind would blow it away until it safely lands in a forest. What we do know is, their neighbors were less than happy about them doing it.
Heavy Is the Foot That Wears the Flip Flop
Having to deal with neighbors in an apartment building isn't easy. You're bound to have some complaints, and it can be hard to figure out how to handle certain situations without making it a full-blown dispute. While some people face the issue head-on, others turn to humor in order to make light of the situation. These people were tired of having to hear their neighbors stomping around their home.
So they put up a sign with a photo of what seems to be brick flip flops, saying it's their neighbor's "favorite shoes." We hope the upstairs neighbors saw the sign, had a good laugh, and decided to be more considerate from then on.
That's What We Call Petty Cash
Taking your pet to the vet can be an expensive experience - especially if they have an injury or need surgery. Just like seeing the doctor yourself, if you don't good have health insurance in the U.S., it can cost a pretty penny to take care of your pet. So when your neighbor's dog is the one responsible for your pet getting injured, you'd expect them to cover the charges, right? Well, it seems that not everyone thinks this is fair.
When this person's Golden Retriever was attacked by the neighbor's Great Dane, they asked them to pay for the vet's bill. They agreed, but they decided to do it in the most inconvenient way possible, just to be super extra petty.
That Moment You Realize Your Neighbor Is Not Your Friend
Most people would like to consider themselves to be good neighbors. If you're a good neighbor, then most likely you'll become friends with your neighbors, helping them out when they need it, and getting their help in return. But sometimes, you realize your neighbors don't see you as a friend. In fact, they don't care about you at all. That's what this person realized when they stepped outside one day, and saw this.
Their neighbors renovated the outside of their semi-detached home, and had no interest in covering the charge to paint their neighbor's half as well. They didn't even care how awkward it would look to only have half of the front renovated, while the other half remains outdated - and that's pretty cold.
Just a Lone Tree Standing in an Empty Yard
We don't really get why this photo became viral, to be honest. There isn't much about it - just a tree standing in someone's otherwise empty yard. For some reason, the people who posted this photo chose this particular one to complain about their neighbors parking a large military vehicle in their own back yard. Can you see anything? Seriously though, whoever did this must think they are masters of camouflage.
Did they seriously believe no one could spot the gigantic truck behind the tree, since it's painted with a camouflage pattern and parked behind a thin tree?
You Need to Sign for This Standing Delivery Order
We generally try to mind our own business in our day to day, keeping our noses out of our neighbor's business. But from time to time, something so incredibly weird turns up, we just can't ignore it. So we can't blame these people for taking this photo and sharing it online for everyone to see. We mean, if our neighbor got a delivery shaped like a human being, that would raise some serious questions for us, too.
We're not sure we'd want any of these questions answered, though, because we might learn a few things about our neighbors that we won't be able to un-learn.
This Means War
Although neighborly disputes are pretty much inevitable, how far they go is definitely up to the residents of a certain neighborhood. If you call the cops on your neighbor, it better be because they're throwing a wild house party at 3 o'clock in the morning. But this petty neighbor actually called the cops to complain about their neighbor's lawn. This was obviously going too far, so to retaliate, their neighbor did something pretty hilarious.
They filled their lawn with pink flamingos, and added a sign that declares war. We're just curious to see what their neighbor's next move would be. Perhaps posting it online?
When You Find Yourself in a Stinky Situation
Gone are the days when your grumpy old neighbor would yell at you to get off their property. We're in the 21st century now, y'all. This means they now get to have cameras on their property, that allow them to watch exactly which neighbors aren't picking up after their dogs. Obviously, they're not in the wrong here, as not picking up after your dog is not a very nice thing to do.
But what their sign says they'll do in return is pretty unusual. If they spot a neighbor's dog leaving unwanted excrements on their lawn, they'll send their grandson to do the same to theirs.
Don't Be So Catty About It
Some cats are constantly trying to sneak out, especially if they're cooped up inside all day long. They can be incredibly sophisticated about it, too, when they really want to get their way. We're guessing this person experienced several incidents regarding their cats getting away, since they put up three different signs about it for the maintenance guy to see. We particularly love the third sign about the big cat, though.
It will act completely uninterested in getting out, until you open the door and allow it to make an escape. That's pretty clever for a cat, so we get why this neighbor was so adamant in his warnings.
When You're Breaking Up, but You Still Love Each Other
When you live in an apartment building in the city, you might sometimes find yourself getting a glimpse into someone else's life. Yes, spying on people isn't a very nice thing to do, but when you look out the window and something catches your eye, it's pretty much out of your control. Hopefully, you're not in a Hitchcock film, so you probably won't see your neighbor killing someone, but you might get some interesting sights.
Take this guy, for example, who's giving his neighbors something to truly wonder about. He's just sitting there in front of what appears to be a pile of watermelons, as if they're having a meaningful conversation.
We Hope They're Not Trying to Heat Up Food in the Mailbox
When you're not busy getting annoyed with your neighbors, you might take a moment to appreciate the things they do. For instance, this person saw their neighbors using an old microwave for a mailbox. Not only is that an incredibly clever idea, but it's also good for the environment. Upcycling has become very popular in the past few years, because it helps us reduce waste and make the planet a cleaner place.
Instead of throwing out an old microwave (which is full of plastic) and purchasing a new mailbox, they chose to alter the microwave and re-purpose it. We love this idea, and apparently so do their neighbors.
The Meanest Way to Avoid Getting Robbed
The holidays are the perfect time to do some shopping for the people you love - and for yourself. Between Thanksgiving weekend, Black Friday, and Christmas, stores are going all out with price reductions and sales, so why not? Of course, after you get yourself that big flatscreen TV or that new Playstation, you need to dispose of the boxes they came in. That's where it becomes somewhat of a problem.
You don't want everyone in the neighborhood to know that you have fancy new appliances, because you might get robbed, so what do you do? You just put those boxes next to your neighbor's trash, hoping they get robbed instead. Classy move!
When One of Your Neighbors Is a Minimalist and the Other Is Not
Living in a building or condominium, you get to have many different types of neighbors around you, for the better and for the worse. One person took this photo, of the view from their window, that perfectly demonstrates how people can differ from each other. One of their neighbors, Anna, decorated her balcony with pretty plants and flowers, creating a private oasis for herself where she can escape from the outside world.
The neighbor who lives above her, though, was much less enthusiastic about decorating their balcony - and it shows. All they have is a couple of stacked chairs and a grill, so they can definitely learn a thing or two about flare from Anna.
Look Who's Turning 40
Celebrating your birthday can be really fun, especially when you have someone who cares about you to share your special day with. Some people will go all out to celebrate the birthday of someone they love. Usually it involves balloons, a decorated cake, and maybe even a surprise party. But some people have far more wicked ideas in mind. They seek to embarrass the person celebrating their birthday in front of others.
This photo, taken by an amused neighbor, is an example of a birthday girl who fell victim to this type of ploy. Someone had put childhood photos of her on their front lawn with "Look who's 40!" written across them, effectively accomplishing their mission of embarrassing her. The question is, will the person who did this live to see their next birthday?
That Weird Neighbor Who's Always Watching From Their Side of the Fence
If you live next to someone who owns a dog, then you probably know it's not uncommon to see their dog trying to get your attention as well. Dogs are very social and curious creatures, so they're always sniffing around to see what's happening in the surroundings of their home. This person snapped a very hilarious photo of their neighbor's dog, when it popped in for a visit one day.
Probably left alone for a long time, this dog tried to go over the fence and into their yard. But the funny part is it's just hanging there on the fence on its two legs, so it looks very much like a human.
The Neighbors Are Awfully Quiet and Never Complain
When you're a real estate agent and trying to sell a home, you have to use every upside it has as an advantage towards selling it. Sometimes, you even have to turn the house's downsides into upsides in order to sell it. Take this realtor, for example, who had to sell a home that's located across the street from a graveyard. We mean, yikes. Someone isn't getting their Christmas bonus, right? Well, that depends on the person.
One real estate agent named Mary knew exactly how to put a positive spin on living a stone's throw away from a cemetery. If you buy this home, you'll never hear a peep out of the neighbors across the street - and isn't that a plus?
Is He Married to This Idea?
Getting a divorce is never a pleasant business, even if you go your separate ways pretty amicably. And the hardest part about it might be trying to divide all of your stuff between you, as people usually argue over who gets the more valuable items, or the sentimental ones. This guy thought he could get around this part by having a "divorce" sale while his soon-to-be-ex was away at work.
Truthfully, we kind of hope she came back early and busted him trying to sell their stuff behind her back. One thing's for sure, their neighbors probably got a kick out of his little ploy.
Mmmmm, Donuts!
Small towns can be a nice and friendly place to live, but it's not for everyone. As everyone basically knows each other, you don't really get any privacy with everyone in town up in your beeswax. There's no doubt, though, that things can get pretty interesting in small towns. People can even get away with pranking the police in these places, especially if it's a harmless prank such as this one.
As cops famously love donuts, they set up a trap with a sign that says "Free Donuts." This seems to have made the policemen laugh rather than get upset, so at least in ended well.
Thanks, Karen
Some people think they know better than you about how to raise your children, or in this case, your own pet. This person got a note from his neighbor saying "it's too cold outside for your dog," and needless to say, they didn't like it. So, in return, they sent their concerned neighbor a photo of the dog willingly sitting on a pile of snow, thus proving they have no problem with cold weather.
This should serve as a lesson for all "Karens" out there, who feel the need to complain about everything - if it doesn't concern you, it's probably none of your business.
Reflect on That
It's a little hard to tell what's going on in this photo, but if you look closely, you'll find that the owner of this house has found an effective way to deal with their nosy neighbors. They simply put up one-way mirrors on their windows instead of glass, so if anyone tries to have a look inside, all they'll be able to see is their own reflection. Pretty efficient, right?
Of course, if you have neighbors who actually spend their time lurking around your house and trying to peek through your windows, you might want to just call the police on them.
These People Were Left With a Bad Taste in Their Mouth - Literally
This photo tells the story of neighborly kindness that went awfully wrong. When one family got Christmas cookies from their neighbors, they were probably over the moon. Not only did they have a neighbor nice enough to do something this kind, but they also got to eat some delicious cookies. But once they'd finished the whole plate of cookies, a pretty disturbing truth was revealed to them at the bottom of it.
The bottom of the plate said it was purely decorative, meaning it could potentially poison any food that was placed on it. Thankfully, we know the person who posted it is alive, so hopefully they had a good laugh about this innocent mistake?
The Haunting of Doll House, Coming Soon on Netflix
There are many ways in which people try to keep strangers off their properties. Some will get a big, scary dog, and others will put up a "No Trespassing" sign, warning others to stay off their property. But this person came up with the most hilarious and twisted way of keeping people out. They just put an image of a doll's face, to make it look like their house was haunted.
Honestly, if we walked by and saw this face glaring down at us from the window, we'd steer clear of that house. We've got enough problems as it is without being haunted by a doll.
A Creative Way of Setting Boundaries for Your Neighbors
Usually, when there are two properties next to one another, there's a fence or a brick wall to separate them, but that's not always the case. So how can you tell exactly where your property ends, and someone else's begins? This person had an idea on how to go about it. First, they offered to mow their neighbor's lawn to help them out, since they were an elderly couple and struggled with this difficult chore.
Then, they mowed their own lawn, aside from one strip of grass that would mark the separation between two properties. Were they hoping this piece of grass will just keep growing and growing until it naturally forms a hedge? We sure hope not.
How to Tell When It's Time to Move Out of Your Parents House
It seems like a long, long time since we were 18, but we still remember it well enough to know that the last thing you want for you 18th birthday is to be embarrassed by your parents. Poor Jonathan had to go outside and probably feel mortified by his parents' birthday gesture. They placed a bunch of decorative cows on their front lawn and wrote "Holy cow! We heard Jonathan is 18 now!".
While that is pretty embarrassing, at least it shows that his parents care enough to make sure the whole neighborhood knows about his birthday, which is pretty sweet.
Why Fight When You Can Wi-Fi?
Neighborly disputes have been a thing since biblical times, but the way they've been done has evolved over the decades. As wireless internet came into our lives, for example, we were introduced to some brand new ways of quarreling with our neighbors. Did you know that one of the most wonderfully passive-aggressive ways to annoy your neighbors, is to change your wi-fi username into something hurtful? This photo is the perfect example of that.
One person took to insulting their neighbors by telling them their taste in music is terrible, by changing his username. A neighbor who took offense decided to retaliate by making fun of his poor grammar. Sure, it's petty. But it's also pretty funny, isn't it?
This Snowman Is Nothing Like Olaf From Frozen
Winter is the best time for kids to play around outside, making snow angels and chasing each other with snowballs until someone inevitable gets hurt in the eye. Apparently, it's also the best time to inform the people in your area that you are, in fact, that one creepy neighbor with a dark sense of humor nobody gets. This person proved to be just that when he built a pretty disturbing snowman.
Their snowman seems to have devoured a whole kid, which is obviously a fun joke (at least, if you're not this kid). We're just wondering how long he had to stay up there!
Ask and You Shall Receive
Sometimes, when you live in a tight-knit community neighborhood, people think they have a say in what your property looks like on the outside. It can be super annoying, because not everyone has the spare time or energy to spend on improving the appearance of their property. But when you have a pesky neighbor who keeps bothering you about painting your fence (let's call him Bob), you take the time.
That is, you take the time to paint a very forward message on your fence for that very neighbor, telling him to mind his own business. We'll take a wild guess and assume things escalated from that point on.
Godzilla Has Retired to the Suburbs
We've seen our neighbors do a lot of weird things, but we can honestly say that we've never seen them put up a giant statue of Godzilla in their back yard. This person, however, had the pleasure of driving by their neighbor's house and coming across this interesting sight. Either that's a statue, or the person who snapped this picture needs to keep driving and don't stop until they get to Canada.
Some people think the suburbs are a boring and uneventful place. But where else would you find people crazy enough to purchase something like this for their back yard?
Why so Serious?
It's nice to have neighbors that you have something in common with, but you're not always aware of your common interests until something like this happens. One DC-Comics lover decided to purchase a Batman-themed doormat that says "Welcome to the Batcave", which is pretty cool - but not as cool as what happened next. In return, his neighbor and fellow DC fan purchased his own Batman-related doormat, that certainly rivals his.
His doormat says "Welcome to Arkham Asylum", the place which notoriously housed some of Batman's worst enemies, including the Joker. Well, they do say you should always keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Love Thy Neighbor, and His Dog
It's a pretty rare thing for neighbors to get along perfectly, and it's even less common when both of these neighbors have pets. Animal related disagreements are among the most common ones among neighbors, since they can often be noisy or messy. These neighbors, however, both have dogs, and not only do they get along - they actually want their dogs to spend more time playing together. How sweet is that?
They've agreed to install a doggy door in their fence, so whenever their pups want to play around together, they can hop over to the other side and visit their canine neighbor.
